O estudo da ecologia funcional e da biogeografia de florestas neotropicais busca compreender os processos que moldam a estrutura e o funcionamento dos ecossistemas. A pesquisa foca na variação de atributos funcionais das plantas e em como eles respondem a gradientes ambientais e mudanças climáticas. Também envolve a aplicação desse conhecimento na restauração ecológica, desenvolvendo estratégias para recuperar áreas degradadas e fortalecer os serviços ecossistêmicos essenciais à biodiversidade e ao bem-estar humano.
